Hey Chromies!
After muddling through the month of January, I’ve come to a difficult decision. I’ll be taking a hiatus from Chromebook and ChromeOS coverage. At least for a bit, possibly for good.
I’ve written about why on my personal blog here. There’s also a link in that post pointing to the site revenues and challenges, although I have shared that info prior in the newsletter.
Long story short: I simply can’t afford to spend time writing for the site and the newsletter. I have to make a reasonable bit of money with that time instead.
I still don’t have another job, even though I’ve been looking since last May. However, I’m changing my tactics in the short term and looking for pretty much any employment locally. Anything that can earn me $1,500 to $2,000 a month will cover our home expenses.
Put another way: I won’t be picky and I won’t likely be working in a technical role. And I’m OK with that. You gotta do what you gotta do!
For now, the About Chromebooks site is still available on the web. I’ve reduced my hosting costs to just $12 a month, so I plan to keep the site available over the coming months. I have disabled comments, however. I need to focus on things other than the site. Removing comment moderation and responses will let me do that.
In terms of the newsletter, this is the final one; at least for some time.
I have started to cancel any support memberships on Ko-Fi because I want to start February with a clean slate.
If you did sign up for a monthly membership and can cancel it, that will help me get through the process faster. And if any of your funds arrive after you receive this newsletter, let me know and I’ll happily get that money back to you.
Again, this was a difficult decision and not one I took lightly. I never expected to even have to consider making this decision. However, here we are.
Know that your support and kind thoughts over the years have been a blessing. I don’t take things like that for granted. I truly appreciate the warmth and passion of this community.
All the best and…. keep on Chromebookin’!

Kevin, As a now-retired mainstream journalist, I ache at what this past year has been like for you -- and for the pain of the changes it has forced upon you. I know my loss as a reader is small compared to what this all costs you and yours. Yours was a voice that earned trust easily because it was so honest, principled and ... humble. Plus intelligent and curious -- such a rare skill set to find flowering in an age of influencers. Know that your work was relied on, recommended and appreciated, both written and podcast with Stacy and occasionally that Twit bunch. Good luck and thanks for (almost wrote "all the fish") sharing so much.
Sad.
I learned a lot from you.
Wishing you a great job that pays well soon!
