Many thanks for your Newsletters! I installed Nala on my Linux Mint PC, but of course I had already done all the installations using apt after the recent upgrade to Vanessa, so it proved rather pointless- silly me. However, your advice was spot on for my Chromebook linux, in which the container was quickly deleted, and my four main apps re-installed with Nala. The key to my success was your previously overlooked link and advice to follow the“ Install the repository and key” instructions at the website <https://gitlab.com/volian/nala/-/wikis/Installation>. I hope that my comments may help other relatively inexperienced Linux/Chromebook users.
I'm not sure I understand your question, Robert. What do you mean ChromeOS is going away? It's not going anywhere that I'm aware of. 😉
What is happening is that the ChromeOS browser is going to be a separate application, known as Lacros, which is the Linux version of Chrome. But that's not going to have much, if any, observable impact to users. More info here on Lacros, if that's what you're referring to: https://www.aboutchromebooks.com/news/lacros-vs-chrome-and-chrome-os-on-chromebooks/
I have an Acer Chromebook Spin 713. I can no longer access by Playstore apps by scrolling up from my task bar. The are only available through the Launcher. You just wrote about the changes for the ChromeOS 104 update - "the Play Store in Launcher".
Can you tell me how to get the scroll feature back?
Hi BT! I think I’m understanding your question, but if not, let me know.
Google has changed the Launcher, which used to scroll up from the task bar. I suspect that if you use your Chromebook Spin 713 in tablet mode, all apps do scroll up from the task bar. However, going forward, Google is implementing this new style of Launcher when not in tablet mode and all apps will be in the Launcher.
You might be able to disable it for a month, maybe two, but this is a global change as far as I know. If you want to try that, navigate to chrome://flags in your browser and search for Launcher. Once you find the flag for the new Productivity Launcher (or any related flags), try to set them to “Disabled” and then click the button to relaunch the browser.
Again, this might work and even if does, I suspect that eventually it won’t. Wish I had better news for you.
If it's permanent, the sooner I get used to it the better. So I won't be fiddling.
In tablet mode the launcher is still active and I cannot scroll as I did before. Thus it appears to be affecting both standard and tablet mode.
Now I just have to decide if I apologize to my husband for blaming him for messing up my Chromebook or just not mention it. (The last time he used it he somehow reset authorization. I finally figured out what happened: trying not to teach my young granddaughter some new words and a reboot finally resolved the problem. He says he has no idea how he changes things, which I believe. I just wish I could figure out how he has done it.
Thank you for your help. I find the information you provide invaluable.

Can we get a future article about the future of ChromeOS?
Is it really going away?
